Photographer Josef Jacques about Merced California: "A city of many booms and busts. Originally a rail town, connecting the gold mines of the Sierras to the Santa Fe and Pacific railroads. It was an agricultural town that is in one of the most fertile valleys in the world. It was a roadside town on Highway 99 and was known as the “Gateway to Yosemite”. It was speculative home town, where homes were built in hopes of wealth. The stories of Merced are indicative of many Californian and American folklore, dreams, and disappointments."

Yvonne Albinowski: "Nestled three miles east of Hwy 111, at the foothills of the Chocolate Mountains in the Colorado Desert, lies a small community of year round campers called Slab City. This area was the site of Camp Dunlap originally constructed in 1942 as marine barracks for WW2. This military base would soon be demolished and abandoned just four years later. The only evidence of its existence are the concrete slabs that remain on the site. Over the last several years, I have spent some time driving across the United States in search of obscure towns, exploring uncharted and concealed deserts. It was during this search that I became engrossed with intimately uncovering the lives of the people who reside within the small confines of these desolate communities. Learning, analyzing, and unearthing the origins of my subjects and why they have chosen to live alternative lifestyles away from mainstream American is what continues to attract me to these places."

Aaron McElroy: "The photographic series "Traces" juxtaposes visions of unposed figures and environments. There are no indications of place, time or identity, the focus is on subtle traces left by life: the transparency of a curtain, laddered tights, fireflies hovering over a field. The photographs come into recognition; appealing, seductive half-dreams, yet they retain all the transitory vulnerability of humans dazed in their reality."
