Introduction by Regina Anzenberger

I love photography – all kinds of styles, various themes and photographers who dedicate themselves to personal subjects and picture languages. My choice of essays and photographers shall show that. Black and white, colour, different formats, reportage, concept and even iphone photography. But one thing photography has to do for sure: to tell us a story!

On Daniele Mattioli: A hedgehog in the dark of the night? Photographed in the style of Fritz Lang’s films of the 30ies. Iphone and polaroid make it possible. A courageous step in the direction of finding a new visual language according to new technology and internet standards. Is this the future of photography? Well, I like it. Easy, creative and good looking. Small and pretty fine art works in pinhole optics. Ready to get printed on fine art paper and sold to collectors who like contemporary art.

Artist Testimonial

This series of photos has been taken during the final preparation of the UK Pavilion, the final touch of work at the Shanghai Expo Site where on the 1st of May the Expo opened its doors to millions of tourist and visitors.

I was working on assignment for the Heatherwick Design Studio and from time to time I shot a photograph with my iPhone. The photos are not post processed, the application itself creates this effect.

I am normally against any work of post production. I do believe whenever I shoot I need to adapt my vision to the technical capabilities of the camera. I think it is an essential point to separate vision from post production. I chose twelve photographs out of the twenty I took.

The UK pavilion is one of the most interesting examples of modern design and brings a lot of concept within the idea of lights and the ancient trading route from England and China which often divided the two countries.

The pavilion has sixty thousand spikes made by fiber optics, it is also called the Seed Cathedral, each fiber optic ends in a room where a large number of different kinds of seeds can be seen embedded at the end of each spike. On the outside, the fibers create a gently moving effect, at night the light is diffuse and of various colors.
