Curator Statement by Michael Itkoff
Chris Churchill’s project is an enlightening look at American’s conception of Faith in this fraught era. Churchill does not pretend to create a comprehensive cross-section of citizens but, nonetheless, this project is a collective portrait. Churchill had no set route for the five year project but had confidence (or ‘faith’) that his journey would take him to the right people and places. As a sort of cultural ambassador or census taker, Churchill has engaged with a broad swath of the American public and shared a number of these encounters with us. This virtual exhibition was drawn from the show at Fovea, details here. Views for this post have not been counted.

American Faith is an exploration into the inherent human need to be connected to something greater.
It addresses faith as a fundamental part of the human experience and confirms that we are a society of individuals intertwined by our need to manifest this need.
American Faith is a record of Churchill’s travels throughout the United States encountering strangers and collecting stories and images of their personal experiences of being a part of something larger themselves.
