  1. a bit challenging to show such photos (especially the first ones) when the web viewer has to deal and battle with on-screen images, with its doubty contrast and luminosity.
Or maybe there’s absolutely nothing to see anyway :)

Curator Statement – Marcelo Brodsky on Bruno Dubner
If photography is creating images or drawing graphs with light, Bruno Dubner has achieved a degree of intimacy with the the medium that make his work become simple, synthetic and complex at the same time. He works with light and colour, and with these essential elements he builds mystery and emotion. In dialogue with other artists that put light in the centre of their work, from Caravaggio to Dan Flavin, Dubner constructs his pictures with a mystical and meditative approach that relates them to Rothko's. Photographers' diversity in the use of the medium is infinite. Bruno uses this flexibility in a personal way, concentrating his efforts on the diversity of shape and shadow, light and darkness that make the medium such an eclectic and transformative animal.

Poll results
Our poll "A photo essay always needs a great written story" closed. 267 people voted, 28% agrees, 72% disagrees. 233 people answered our follow-up question "Are you a photographer?" 82% indicated they are, 18% said no. Initially, negative answers to question #1 were almost 100% as was the pecentage of photographers among respondants. Then, when the level of non-photographers started to rise, the percentage of people indicating good text is always essential started to rise too. This seems to indicate that non-photographers think that adding good text to your photo essays is essential. In my opinion: if you want non-photographers to dig your work, you know what to do...

Artist Testimonial

During the last years I’ve been working on two series.

Vigil, (2004-2008). These images are made in my house during the night. I worked with long exposures, photographing things that only photography can see. I wanted this production mode to be present in the images. Vigil is an attempt to push the boundaries of the basic materiality of photography: the light and its absence on film.

Testimony of a Contact, (2006-present day). Testimony of a contact is a series of color photographs obtained without the camera mediation. To produce these images, I hold photographic film with my hands in a room of my house. I expose it to different frequencies of light. By means of this action, I pursue a trace that reveals photography’s language: the contact between certain luminosity and the sensitive material.
